United States District Court for the District of Maryland, Baltimore (Northern) Division
The Edward A. Garmatz Federal Building houses three distinct Maryland federal courts: the U.S. District Court, U.S. Bankruptcy Court, and the U.S. Court of Appeals. Located at 101 West Lombard Street between Sharp Street and Hopkins Place in downtown Baltimore, the courthouse played a significant role in the Baltimore Inner Harbor revitalization effort in the 1970's.
The courthouse is easily accessible from several highway exits. There are a few commercial parking facilities within walking distance. A few of the parking facilities include: Baltimore Arena garage located at 99 S. Howard Street and the Marriott parking garage located at 405 West Lombard Street.
In 1972, the building was named in honor of Edward A. Garmatz. A Baltimore native, Garmatz served Maryland as a U.S. Representative from 1947 to 1973. For the majority of his political career, he served as the chairman of the Committee on Merchant Marine and Fisheries.
