Failure to Appear in Maryland Court

If you are scheduled to appear before a Maryland court, it is imperative that you keep your court date.  Your failure to appear will result in the suspension of your driver's license and possibly a bench warrant for your arrest.  Until your court obligations are honored, you will not be able to drive, and you risk arrest and further criminal charges of driving with a suspended license.  If you miss a court date, a Maryland criminal lawyer can help you take a proactive approach to handling your Maryland failure to appear charge.  By filing a motion to strike the bench warrant, your  attorney has a number of tools and resources to help you deal with the consequences of your failure to appear.

One of the most common types of failure to appear allegations stems from unpaid traffic citations.  If you do not pay a traffic fine within 15 days, you will be given a court date.  If you do not show up in court, the judge may issue a warrant for your arrest.  There are legitimate reasons you may not have known about your required court appearance.  If the court's letter was sent to the wrong address, for example, you may have never received notice of the court date.  If you did not know that you had failed to appear before the court, you may not have realized that your license was suspended.  An experienced attorney can help you understand your options for dealing with violations such as driving on a suspended license after a failure to appear in Maryland.  A Maryland criminal lawyer will also evaluate your case to help you find the best options after a warrant for failure to appear has been issued.

If you have missed a court date and fear there may be a warrant for your arrest, contact Price Benowitz LLP for a free consultation with a qualified Maryland criminal lawyer.

If you have failed to appear for a court date in Washington DC or Virginia, please go to our DC Failure to Appear or Virginia Failure to Appear web pages.
